As new (and existing) homeowners, you may have already been rudely awakened to our town's over-clearing laws. While this may be, in some cases, an incredibly expensive and laborious project to be forced to undertake, please know that it is not all in vain. Our town was built around a beautiful, yet fragile, natural ecosystem. Think about why you were drawn to move (or stay) here. Was it our expansive ocean beaches? Or were you seduced by the natural serenity of our bays? Maybe a couple miles into one of the town or state park hiking trails sealed the deal for you. Perhaps you were awoken one morning by the sweet song of a Scarlet Tanager, breeding and feeding in a native oak? Or was it the family of deer, unabashedly helping themselves to your Hydrangeas? Okay, so the deer scenario is probably not your favorite, but we're willing to bet that a myriad of these unique natural beauties captured your heart. And, since they captured us too, it's only fitting that we should be passionate about protecting the beauty that lured us all here to begin with.
So, if you are ripping your hair out in frustration, trying to rectify a violation you just received, take a moment. Go outside. Breathe in our fresh, salty air. Take a walk on the beach. Bike through the woods. Wake up early and have coffee with the birds. And remember that the beauty that drew you here cannot survive unless we protect it.
